concern 用法1

問：A lot of students get concerned ________ their grades only at the end of the term.

C. for
D. about
《新編大學英語四、六級常考詞題庫》(p. 124) 給的答案是D (about) 。能否選B(with) 或C(for) 呢?

答：就有關concern 用法，有些英語文法書和英漢詞典(如1997 年版的《考試備用英漢詞典》) 都強調指出be concerned about 是指“關心”, 而be concerned with 則是指“與⋯ ⋯ 有關”、“與⋯⋯ 有牽連”、“涉及到”。例如:

1. We are not concerned with that matter.
   我們跟那件事無關。
2. This story is concerned with a Russian family in the 19^th century.
   這篇故事描述的是十九世紀的一個俄國家庭。

但是, 實際上, be concerned with 也可以指“關心”、“ 關懷”:

1. She is deeply concerned with our health problem.
   她很關心我們的健康問題。
2. We are more concerned with efficiency than expansion.
   我們對效率比對擴張更加關心。

還應當知道, be concerned for 也常常用於表示“關心”、“關懷”, 因此, 選C(for) 也肯定是正確的。

1. We are all concerned for (about) her safety.
   我們大家都關心她的安全。
2. A good employer should be concerned for the welfare of his workers.
   好的雇主應當關心工人們的福利。

concern 用法2

問：In repudiating this view, Mao was quite plainly concerned with the theoretical foundation for China’s claim to be already in some degree socialist in nature.
[原譯1] 在批判這一觀點之後, 毛相當明確地表示, 中國宣佈在一定程度上已具有社會主義性質是有理論基礎的。(《劍橋中華人民共和國史》, 中國社科出版社版, p. 21)
[原譯2] 在批駁了這個觀點之後, 毛明確指出, 中國的所有權在一定程度上已經具有了社會主義的性質, 是有理論基礎的。(海南出版社版, p. 22)
上面兩個譯本均沒有把原文中的be concerned with 翻譯出來, 這是否意味著它在這裡沒有什麼實際意義?

答：原文中的be concerned with 具有很重要的意義(對⋯⋯ 關心), 不可省譯(參見 concerned 用法1) 。
[試譯] 在擯棄這個觀點時, 毛所關心的顯然是如何為中國宣稱已在某種程度上具有社會主義性質的提法提供理論基礎。
