far 用法 1

答：我們從than 子句可以看出, 形容詞great 應當改為比較級形式(greater), 另外, 我們子句中的副詞far 也可以看出這一點, 因為far 用法可用於修飾形容詞或副詞的比較級或最高級, 以加強其程度, 但一般不用於修飾可分等級的形容詞的原級, 故上句中的far great 應改為far greater 。類似的例子:

far 用法 2 (far / a long way)

答：“far 不能用於肯定句”的說法是不準確的。準確的說法是: 作“遠”解的副詞far, 一般不能在肯定句中單獨地用作副詞, 而只能用於否定句和疑問句:

1. Did you walk for? 你走得遠嗎?
2. They didn’t live far from us. 他們住得離我們不遠。

在肯定句中, 應當用a long way 來代替far : We walked a long way.但是, 如果far 與very, too, so 連用, 副詞far 也可以在肯定句中用作副詞:

1. They live very (too) far from us. 他們住得離我們很(太) 遠。
2. Yes, we walked much too far. 是的, 我們走得太遠了。

如果far 用作形容詞或副詞比較級或最高級的強化語, 那就更可以用在肯定句中了。

1. That was a far easier job. 那是一件容易得多的工作。
2. It was far the best film that I’ve seen for a long time. 這是我長時間以來所看到的最好的電影。

此外, 當far 用於轉義時, 也可用在肯定句中:

His results will have far exceeded his expectations.
他的結果將會大大超過他的期望。
