答：現代英語文法學家們不把granting(that) 和granted(that) 看作是分詞, 而把它們看作從屬連接詞, 如同assuming (that), supposing (that), given (that), provided (that) 一樣。granting (that) 和granted (that) 雖然形式不同, 但語意是一樣的, 都是表示讓步關係(盡管, 即使), 並不表示條件。例如:
