whom 用法1

問：You gave whom the book?
whom 放在這個位置上是正確的嗎?

whom 用法2 (with whom/ whom…with?)

問：(A) With whom did you go?
(B) Whom did you go with?
上面哪個whom 用法是正確的?

答：上面的兩種whom 用法都是正確的。但是在語用上是有區別的。句型(A) 是正式用法, 而且很罕見。句型(B) 中的whom 常常用作who, 尤其是在口語中。請比較:

1. (A) To whom did you give it?
   (B) Whom did you give it to?
   你把它給誰了?
2. (A) To whom did the detective show his badge?
   (B) Who did the detective show his badge to?
   那個偵探給誰看了他的獎章?

當who 用作連接代名詞時, 情況亦是如此, 但是介係詞+ 連接代名詞不像位於句首的介係詞+ 疑問代名詞那樣罕見:

1. (A) don’t know to whom to give it.
   (B) I don’t know who to give it to.
2. (A) I wonder to whom he’s talking.
   (B) I wonder who he’s talking to.
